Precautions and things to avoid during pregnancy

1 Papaya & Pineapple

Papaya contains enzyme papain that cause contractions of uterus and pineapple softens the cervix leading to immature labour.

Avoid Papaya and Pineapple during pregnancy as the components of these fruits are dangerous and may cause miscarriage.

2 Caffeine :

Limit the intake of Caffeine as it may cause irregular heartbeats, nervousness, sleeping problems, irritability and anxiety.

High levels of caffeine in pregnancy leads to low birth weight of baby, increase the risk of health problems & can cause a miscarriage.

3 Fish :

Some type of fish to be avoided during pregnancy, to stay away from fetal damage and some other complications.

Avoid the kind of fish like king mackerel, shark, swordfish, king mackerel or tilefish during pregnancy.

4 Raw Food

Avoid eating raw or uncooked foods like raw fish, meats, poultry. They may cause infections or parasitic disease.

Raw food contains listeria bacteria & toxoplasma gondii parasite that can cause food poisoning, vomitings, miscarriage and fetal damage.

5 Artificial food colors :

The Artificial food colors are to be avoided during pregnancy. Particularly blue 1, blue 2, green 3, red 3 and yellow 6 and Saccharin.

Artificial food colors which may have a negative effect on children, causing hyperactivity and behaviour issues.

6 Alcohol :

Avoid Alcohol during pregnancy. It causes premature birth, brain damage and it may affect baby growth & development.

Alcohol may cause FAS – Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. And some defects like hearing & vision defects and heart defect.

7 Cigarette :

Stop smoking cigarette during pregnancy. They have harmful chemicals which reach baby and damage your health.

Avoid Cigarette, as it may cause SIDS – Sudden Infants Death Syndrome. It harms you and your unborn baby.

8 Medications

Avoid unneccessary medication without doctor’s advice during pregnancy. Some medications may be harmful to your baby.

Taking certain medications during pregnancy can cause serious birth defects. Thalidomide or Thalamid® & Isotretinoin or Accutane are examples.

9 X-rays :

No single diagnostic x-ray has a radiation dose significant enough to cause adverse effects in a developing embryo or fetus.

Avoid X-rays during pregnancy as the rays may harm your baby. The higher the radiation of X-ray the greater the risk to your baby.

10 Hot baths :

Hot baths in pregnancy raises the body’s core temperature, increases the heart rate & cause stress to baby because it reduces their blood flow.

Avoid hot baths which cause the overheating, that affect the baby development. It can cause a miscarriage or birth defects.
